2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Response
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct vision.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
This announcement echoes a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Dear Team—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”
With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to heart and revamped the title with a renewed vision - one that’s positioned to achieve its potential to our audience.
The trust in Project ETHOS increases every day. To further the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. After some time of talks, Ben starts with us on next week.
His leadership and experience in the PVP shooter field is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half producing and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving him next week. We are all eager to keep witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to ahead.
The President
Background of the New Head
Brinkman currently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the title as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting advancement on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Take on the rivals with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every round. Do you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
Project Ethos does not have an official release date or platforms, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation continues.
