Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on recently

A person who spiked treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a youth camp in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual offences against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The defendant was taken into custody after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the young males "repeatedly", and youngsters had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC said items including lubricant, ointment and medical needles were discovered, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor stated the children were struggling to walk due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson notified the police again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
