Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds. Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT. Max Verstappen, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a alternative strategy. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session. Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the main straight. The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were well clear of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
